Hi, I’m Sloane. I’m a Memphian living in Chicago, a multi-media artist, business owner, and an operational leader. My Bachelor’s is in French because, oui, I love to travel. I hold an MA in Creative Entrepreneurship from Columbia College Chicago and my experience in retail and operational management spans over a decade. I most recently worked as Director of Operations for a creative social club in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood and I run a mutual aid group focused on bringing mental health and community support to those struggling with the realities of capitalism.

The pseudonym Alias Plural evolved from Sloane’s innate desire to take on new identities, to explore new ways of seeing the world, and to express their gender fluidity as consistently as one’s emotions arise and fall away.

Makeshift provides upcycled and vintage clothing, and sustainable styling services to meet each person wherever they are on their sustainable fashion journey.

Makeshift was created to contribute to solving the climate crisis, first and foremost. We seek to eliminate the fast-fashion industry - the second largest environmental polluter today - by bridging a gap between the two major alternatives: worn, outdated secondhand apparel, and sustainably but newly-produced fashions.

Makeshift takes secondhand or discarded apparel and fabrics that can be preserved, tailored, repaired, enhanced, and/or remade, and we create new, fun, one-of-a-kind pieces. Additionally, we offer sustainable styling services and resources to help everyday consumers understand, recognize, and find sustainable fashions.
